LEVX® is a highly efficient,
economically achievable and environmentally advantageous
transportation system featuring fully automated platforms,
magnetically suspended over a fixed guideway. Platforms are
moved along the guideway by a unique non-contact propulsion
system.

Platforms
are passively levitated above rails incorporating the basic
principles of magnetic repulsion. This magnetic suspension
system consists of powerful, steady state, room temperature
permanent magnets imbedded within the track rails providing a
uniform polarity along its length and permanent magnets
positioned on the underside of each platform to oppose those in
the rails in a unique configuration, achieving stable levitation
at very wide air gaps and providing for smooth, vibration free
transport. The testing of several generations of full-scale
prototypes has established a new standard for transportation
efficiency and simplicity and therefore an economic viability
thought previously unattainable.

The problem with traditional
coupling designs is that each year, per pump, extensive time is
spent repairing and replacing mechanical seals, couplings, and
bearings due to coupling alignment difficulties. Greased
couplings require quarterly maintenance and produce as much as
three pounds of hazardous waste each year. Anytime the
coupling is disconnected for pump or motor work, it requires a
complete realignment of the pump and motor shafts.
Re-alignments introduce a shift in the load and wear patterns of
the bearings and seals shortening their useable life
significantly.
The answer is to install a
commercial off-the-shelf magnetic coupling that eliminates the
need for time consuming alignments, and does not shift the load
and wear patterns of the bearings and seals. The coupling
accepts up to .25" of misalignment. It requires no
maintenance and extends the life of the connected equipment by
eliminating the transfer of system vibrations or other harmful
overload torque conditions between the pump and motor.
There is no shaft-to-shaft physical connection thus eliminating
system lockup and destructive failure. Magnetic properties
allow for soft start capability reducing starting current
significantly.
